(en) about the festival

Festival performances Sofia Underground e founded in March 1997 by art critic Ruenov Rouen (1958-2011) in response to the political situation in Bulgaria in the direction of its artistic mastery. Realizing wrote Rouen
in the introduction to the catalog at the festival that the construction of the new paradigm
visual a vacuum of responsible behavior towards the idea of art. I felt intolerance of feeling that all branches back to kavaletnost and decorative (Typical for the Bulgarian art) devoid of any social projections heuristic efforts and open your senses to the present.

The first festival was held on 27 May of the same year in the dungeons National Palace of Culture in Sofia and performances are presented primarily political. Until 2000 it held 4 festival in which participate in practice all activist artists from the so-called neokontseptualno second generation, and some veterans from the period when
of contemporary art in Bulgaria: RASSIM, Kosyo Minchev, Dan Standings, Boris Gabriela Serginov, artist has been Boryana Rossa Tsvetan Krastev, Nadezhda Oleg Lyahova, Daniela Kostova, Maran Gozov (color Marangozov) Svilen Stefanov, Dimitar Grozdanoff Ilian Lalev Dimitar Yaranov and many others. etc.. also experimenting
musicians (Limbourg Brothers, OM, Bobo, and Tosho Tabakov ...), writers (Jordan Eftimov,
Bobby Rokanov, Lucho Lozanov, etc.).

In the period 2001-2003 the festival changed its tactics and out in public urban spaces: streets, squares, subways, etc. Executed several technically complex and large-scale campaigns with the participation of well-known names such as Wenceslas Kostov, Dimitar Dimitrov, Bogdan Alexandrov experimental poets and others.

Over the years the Sofia Underground is represented with a fokumentatsiya Biennale Cairo (2001), in galleries and clubs in London (2002), Paris (2004), New York (2010), Berlin (2011), Ruse - a vast exhibition Canetti (2012).

Daniel Kötter (Germany) - Bühne - HD, 2012, 17'59"

about:
Daniel Kötter’s most recent film “Bühne” examines a moment of fundamental change in the understanding of public space in post-communist Bulgaria. The Palace for Sports and Culture in the Bulgarian Black Sea coastal town Varna was built as a prestige project of modernist architecture for the communist understanding of theatre and sport. While no changes were made to the interior design since its opening 1968, every week the main hall changes its architectural and social function.
The film stages the “theatre” itself, not as yet another art form (with its specific institutional conditions, market rules and local aesthetic and historic limitations), but as a name for the allegoric space of encounter.
“Bühne” is related to a larger body of video works on the transformation of space and place of cultural production that Kötter has been producing since 2008: “state-theatre: LAGOS/TEHRAN/BERLIN/DETROIT/BEIRUT/MÖNCHENGLADBACH” (in collaboration with Constanze Fischbeck, 2008-2014) deals with the transformation of theatre architecture; the series “Frame-Analysis” (ongoing) stages the conditions of cultural production as “theatre” itself.

Daniel Kötter (Germany) - Constanze Fischbeck (Germany) - state-theatre #1: Lagos - 24`

The word 'theatre' (theatron in greek) refers first and foremost to the place and architecture of a performance, rather than to what is being performed. Even after centuries, a theatre’s architecture represents the visual order from which it emerged: the possibilities for artistic production are historically conditioned. The geometrical space of architecture is pitted against the anthropological space of its use.

1st case study: LAGOS
The National Theatre of Nigeria in Lagos was built for the second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) in 1976.
It is the only state-subsidized theatre in Nigeria.
While its smaller halls are occasionally used for theatre performances, banquets and weddings, the 5000-seat main hall has been deserted since the early 1990s.
A reopening was scheduled for 2010 but
postponed indefinitely after a series of changes in direction.

counter shot: The Bariga Arts Center was founded in 2009 in a Lagosian slum by choreographer and Nollywood actor Segun Adefila, after the rent free agreement between his company Crown Troupe of Africe and the National Theatre of Nigeria had been revoked.

about the project:
The installation “Water” creates a space where the interplay of water and light is taken further by inviting the observer to experience the physical environment of the subject matter in the video. The movement of the water on the screen is reflected in a physical pool of water which itself is further reflected thus creating the illusion of endless space and bringing us to the idea of infinity of possibilities of how we could perceive and respond to the world around us.
“Water" is a collaboration between Bulgarian-American composer/video installation artist Maria Panayotova and Finnish composer Olli Virtaperko. The video came to life in the form of a commission by the composer for the Tampere Biennale 2014 in Finland. The music portion of the piece is called "Soabbegealdinoaivi", which refers to a mountain region in Finnish Lapland and the vastness of the landscape made of little hills is illustrated in the music by the melodic repetitive pattern, which goes up and down all the time and the use of polyrhythms. The video footage is reflections of light over water shot in Venice which seemed to perfectly fit the rhythm of the musical layers, so while the two creators were inspired by different natural phenomena, they both agree that the video does depict the essence expressed in the music.

LYUBA HALEVA - SUPER OFFER
installation - objects

about the project:
The project includes eight cubes of different sizes executed in mixed media - collage, acrylic paint, prints, MDF, 2011.Can art be a commodity of basic necessity or is it only useful for the people who create it?
The viewer / consumer is provoked to "buy" a work of art and as he buys one - receives  five in total, because 5 are the sides of the cube on which there are more images. There is an attempt the manipulative phrase SUPER OFFER -buy 1- you get 2 ( 3, 4 or 5 )to be taken out of context of the big supermarket and be applied as a means for stimulating art in the art world.Buying a "cube" and not the consecutive TV one makes a better investment and receives a more lasting sense of satisfaction.

НО/ BUT
